Juneteenth Display @ CADL


Be sure to visit the Juneteenth display  at the Downtown Capital Area District Library, 401 South Capitol Avenue , Lansing, Michigan. Along with the Juneteenth display is the Black Inventors Traveling Exhibit, featuring 'The Invention Lady' Bettye J. Gilkey.


One of this year's pre-Juneteenth Festival events was a Karaoke contest. Three preliminary rounds, held in May, gave us our top three contestants. The Finale was held June 6.  Congratulations to Andres de Jesus, 1st Place winner in the Karaoke Contest. Shyann Gilkey placed 2nd, and Roxi Spann was 3rd. Great job everyone! Special thanks to our hosts at Gregory's Ice and Smoke, 2510 N. Martin Luther King ~ Lansing, MI, Monday, June 6th ~ 8:00 pm. The winners will perform live at the Juneteenth Freedom Festival!

Essay Award Winner Announced

Chantel Rusher is a 9th grader with a 3.8 gpa. Her award winning essay will be printed in the Juneteenth Telegraph, available during Juneteenth Weekend.
